Intrepid Travel has launched over 80 new experiences for travelers in 2023. With itineraries in new locations, more ethical wildlife adventures, an increase in activities supporting Indigenous communities and female-run businesses, and with fresh ways to discover the world’s most iconic destinations, Intrepid aims to provide more meaningful ways to forge connections while making a positive impact on the places visited.
The 80 experiences for 2023 include new tours, destinations and activities added to existing itineraries. Highlights of the new experiences on offer include:
Pakistan Expedition: Intrepid is introducing Pakistan as a new destination to its portfolio in 2023 with a new 15-day adventure that will take travelers through the country. Visitors will learn about Pakistan’s past, present and future, explore the region’s remote mountain villages during various hikes, visit female-led community projects, meet local families in Shimshal and experience the food, customs and culture that make the destination so unique.
Rwanda Gorilla Naming Ceremony & Uganda: This new trip includes a celebration of conservation success modeled off a centuries-old tradition in Rwanda—a naming ceremony for the baby gorillas born in the country’s Volcanoes National Park over the past year. Intrepid travelers will also trek alongside gorillas in Uganda’s Bwindi Forest and Mgahinga National Park, learn how the human-wildlife conflict is being tackled, enjoy several game drives and a boat cruise to spot wildlife, and be joined by a field veterinarian from The Gorilla Doctors for an exclusive fireside chat, all while knowing that a portion of the trip cost supports the important work they do.
Vanuatu Expedition: Land Diving Festival: On this five-day adventure, travelers will visit this South Pacific destination to witness and understand the cultural practices of the land-diving Indigenous people of Pentecost Island, widely considered the original bungee jumping. They will watch the jumpers haul themselves off the platforms as part of a ritual that functions as a coming-of-age for young men, a blessing of the earth for upcoming harvests, and a nod to an age-old Pentecost legend.
Best of Costa Rica: On this eight-day trip exploring the beaches, rainforests and wildlife of Costa Rica, travelers will now be able to visit the Térraba Indigenous community, a matriarchal group that has survived off the land for more than 500 years, with the women responsible for passing information down through the generations. Guests will learn how to carve their own wooden mask, then share a local lunch with the group.
Peru Expedition: Trek the Great Inca Road: In partnership with fellow B Corp SA Expeditions, Intrepid has helped develop sustainable operations along the Inca Trail’s rarely visited and equally magnificent neighbor, the Great Inca Road. Intrepid is the first global tour operator to bring travelers along part of this 25,000-mile ancient highway, which has been regarded as one of the world’s greatest engineering feats, traversing the UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside a traditional llama caravan.
Israel & Palestine Real Food Adventure: One of Intrepid’s beloved food-focused adventures is back for 2023, this time with a new experience for travelers to enjoy: a visit to Taybeh Brewing Company in Palestine run by the Middle East’s first female brewer, which has been crafting agers and ales since 1994 while simultaneously evolving to become a sustainability champion in the region.
